About
Michael Barber is an experienced attorney who focuses his practice on criminal defense, personal injury, home insurance disputes, and education law. His practice is focused on using modern approaches to better serve his clients and get them the justice they deserve. Michael represents clients in felony and misdemeanor cases in Central Florida with commanding experience and a relentless focus on justice. In addition to criminal cases, Michael handles personal injury, homeowner’s insurance, and education cases with the same level of dedication and tenacity.
Michael began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Orange County, Florida. After two years of serving as a prosecutor, he practiced criminal defense at the Umansky Law Firm until 2017. Michael then joined the law firm of Lindsey and Ferry for several years before striking out on his own.
Throughout his career, Mr. Barber has been recognized for his outstanding work in the legal field. He has been named one of “Florida’s Legal Elite Up and Comers” by Florida Trend Magazine every year since 2015, and in 2020 was received promoted recognition as one of Florida’s Legal Elite. He was also named a “Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star” by Florida Super Lawyer Magazine every year since 2015. In 2016, Michael was awarded the prestigious University of Central Florida Top 30 Alumni Under 30 award.
Michael is dedicated to the local legal community and serves the Orange County Bar Association in many capacities. Michael has served as a board member for the Young Lawyer Section and Law Committee since 2013, and in 2020 was elected as President of the Young Lawyer Section of the Orange County Bar Association and continues to serve as President through 2022. Michael received the Orange County Bar Association Lawrence G. Matthews Young Lawyer Professionalism Award in January of 2022. He has also served on the Judicial Relations Committee since 2016 and the Lawyer Referral and Information Services Oversight Committee since 2015. Michael has received several awards for excellence and dedication as a result of his work with the Orange County Bar Association, including the Young Lawyer Section Award of Excellence and the Outstanding Committee Chair Award.
As a second-generation Winter Park native with deep roots in his community, Michael remains active in the community and is wholeheartedly committed to the citizens of Central Florida. He has served on the Orange County Soil and Water board since 2016 and was elected as Chair in 2019. Michael also served on the board of directors of both the Downtown Orlando YMCA and Opera Orlando. Michael cares deeply about the people of Central Florida and is dedicated to serving them both personally and professionally.
